These fun robotic balls can be programmed with a tablet or in some cases move just with your body gestures (mini). The newest in their product line is the BOLT which includes a programmable LED matrix inside of the clear robotic ball.

Strawbees Imagination Kit

Although this is not a gadget, I highly recommend STEM toys like this for purchase as it encourages creativity and higher level thinking to construct items. The kit includes all of the "construction pipes" (straws), connectors, and challenge cards. Strawbees can also be expanded to include a "quirkbot" that can bring your strawbees creations to life.
For the Imagination kit, no additional devices or internet access is required for use.
